This section I will focus on police unclaimed and seized goods for sale. It will be updated from time to time but if you are aware of any police auctions that aren’t on this list and want to give an auction a plug then feel free to send the information via our contact page.
Did you know that there are auctions being held on behalf of the various state police forces i.e. police auction Brisbane, police auctions in Sydney and gear for sale at police auctions in Perth.
There can be different types of auctions such as:
- Motor vehicles – that have been seized as a result of impounding
- Unclaimed goods, lost property auctions, seized goods. These are usually household items, bicycles, radios etc.
Police Auctions In Melbourne
These may be interesting to attend and this article builds on a earlier article mentioning police auctions being held in Victoria run by the Breen group selling all manner of things on behalf of the Victorian State police force for forfeited and unclaimed goods.
The police themselves don’t actually do the auctioning and they palm this off to various auction houses in the city concerned. The auctions for Victoria police forfeited and unclaimed goods are held in the Breen Groups offices at Footscray around 20 minutes by car west of the Melbourne CBD.
Police car auctions
Not for the faint hearted as many of the cars being auctioned may have some serious damage issues or need work to become road compliant. Personally I would not buy a car at a police car auction. They may be cheap but they may have a lot of hidden traps underneath which make them unroadworthy to drive. Vehicles at police car auctions and generally been sourced from impounded vehicles weathered be resulted from a chase or earning etc. in some cases state department sheriffs may have impounded vehicles for unpaid fines.
As video shows there are a lot of traps to buying cars at a police car auction in this auction wasn’t held in Sydney as featured on a Today Tonight
program some time ago.
Police auctions Perth
If you are after a bargain in terms of unreserved ex-police vehicles then you need to look at Manheim’s. At the time of writing Mannheim’s auctions had 61 vehicles coming up for auction that were ex-W.A. police. “WA Clearance Auction including UNRESERVED WA Police Vehicles | 61 lots” information was available on their website and you could bid online.
Manheim’s auctions located 15 minutes from the Perth CBD near the International airport.
For others out there that are going to police auctions you might want to consider unclaimed or seize property. For those in Perth that want to check out forfeited goods for sale by auction you need to go to Ross’s auctioneers and valuers website. Ross’s are located in Welshpool, W.A. Not only do they have sometimes vehicles for auction via the W.A. police but they have bikes, electrical, assorted tools and collectibles for sale by auction. Ross’s auctions generally charge a 10% buyers premium which is inclusive of GST. On their website they have a full catalogue of listings which includes toolboxes, many bikes, white good items, tools and paintings right down to collectibles and coins including foreign currency. There is quite a variety of stuff for auction and quite a lot to choose from so you you need to really pick through the items on the pre-inspections.
WA Today ran a great story on Ross Auctions. From expensive cars to memorabilia Ross have auctions of goods every six weeks. “earlier this month, a person walked away with a Holden Jackeroo 4WD after forking out just $50”. Ross also had a 1970 Monaro GTO 350 which sold for $93,000 in June 2016 to a car collector from the eastern states who travelled to Perth especially to bid on the car. 200 bicycles were up for sale at one auction as well as seized alcohol the article reported.
Police auctions Brisbane
in Brisbane you can find police auctions for vehicles on the website tow.com.au actually city motor auction group act as as the exclusive sales agent disposing of all forfeited vehicles impounded under the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 and hold weekly public auctions at its Eagle farm premises. The website features quite a catalogue of vehicles which are being sold on behalf of Queensland police.
From time to time you might find the larger of the motor vehicle auction hosues pickles or Mannheim in Brisbane also auctioning vehicles on behalf of Queensland police.
Gold Coast, Queensland Police Auctions
If you are on the Gold Coast then Lloyds have handled Police Seized Property & Unclaimed Jewellery auctions in the past. The types of items being auctioned included surfboards, cameras, watches, bracelets, necklaces, precious stones, hand and power tools, skateboards and sporting equipment as well as bicycles, boating equipment etc. Lloyds have an auction centre at Carrara on the Gold Coast and can be reached on phone number – (07)55591999.
